Course Format
You will be held responsible for all material covered in lectures and all material covered in the reading.
Grades will be based on weekly homeworks (40%), a midterm (20%), and a final (40%). All exams will be timed.
Homeworks will generally be handed out on Thursday and due back in class at the begining of class
the following Thursday. There will be 8 homeworks in total.
The Midterm will be distributed on Thursday 10/30/3 and due at 5 pm on Friday 10/31/3. No homework will be given on 10/30/3.
The Final will be distributed on Tuesday 12/9/3 at 9 am and due at 5 pm on Wednesday 12/10/3.

Make-up Lectures
No lectures will be given on Thursday 10/2/3, Tuesday 11/18/3, and Thursday 11/27/3 (institue holiday).
Make-up lectures will be given on Friday 10/10/3 and Friday 11/14/3 in the Beckman Institute auditorium (roughly - NE corner of the Beckman Institute building, 1st floor)


Grading Policy
Grade only (pass/fail option not available). Homework 40%, midterm 20%, final 40%.


Collaboration Policy
Looking at ANY solution other than your own prior to handing in your homework is strictly forbidden.
I expect you to try to do the problems yourself first. If you get stuck, I don't object to your discussing
a problem with another student, with a TA, or with me, but looking at someone else's solutions is prohibited
and each student must write up his or her homework independently.
No collaboration on exams.


Homework and Exam Policy
An answer without appropriate work or clear explanation will be counted as incorrect.
BOX ALL ANSWERS. Homework is due before class on the day it is due!
(If you can't make it to class on time, turn your homework in early.)
Late homework WILL NOT be accepted.
